East Barkwith

Prize bingo evenings in East Barkwith Village Hall are proving to be very successful since the new session started after the holiday break and by coincidence £59.80 and £59.80 has been raised at the last two bingos. Shirley Booth as caller, Mary Dixon as checker and Grace Clark who serves refreshments during the interval were very pleased with the support and thanks are expressed to everyone. Proceeds are for village hall funds and all are welcome to join the regulars for a happy social evening at the next bingo night on Tuesday 25th November at 7.30pm.

Donington on Bain

Mrs Ruby Willoughby organised a very successful coffee morning in Donington on Bain Village Hall on Saturday and raised £392 for the Goulceby and Scamblesby First Responders. Home made cakes, many made by Ruby were much in demand and soon sold out and there were lots of good prizes in the raffle and a tombola and bargains on other stalls.
Martyn Hobson ran the First Responders bric a brac stall and Ruby, who was assisted by friends and neighbours who served coffee and manned stalls extends her thanks to them for their work and to everyone who supported her helping to make the morning such a success. It was a happy social get together and the proceeds were much appreciated by the First Responders as they continue to work towards providing an emergency service for the wide rural community.

Donington on Bain

Over one hundred children attend the village primary school at Donington on Bain and all walked over the road to join others gathered for the Armistice Day Service at the War Memorial in St Andrews Churchyard on Tuesday, at 10.55am on the 11th Day of the 11th Month on the 90th anniversary. The service was led by the Revd Ian McGrath and several of the children laid wreaths they had made and read prayers they had written while others were included in a book of prayers that was placed in the parish church. Mr Albert Martin laid the parish wreath and Reveille and the last post was played.Silence was observed at 11am and afterwards the service continued in St Andrews and the children with their teachers and other staff members returned to school. The Revd McGrath gave the address and read a poem written by a member of the congregation while hymns were accompanied at the organ by Mrs Pam Cade.

Wragby

The Wragby Town Hall Annual Christmas Fayre is to be held on Friday 28th November starting at 6pm and all are welcome to go along and enjoy some festive fun while also supporting the town hall. Santa will be there to meet the children and take their orders and the children of the village school are to sing at the opening of the event.
There will be festive stalls, a raffle and refreshments including hot turkey rolls and the final numbers will be drawn for the big prizes in the Town Hall 100 Club.

There are five Sundays in November and as the church service rota in the Wragby Group of Parishes is based on four Sundays a special joint service is planned on November 30th, the fifth Sunday.

Isobelle and Lorna Garrill and the Sandaver/Tindall family were the joint winners of the Wragby Sunflower growing competition organised by the Revd Mark Holden. The winning height was 13 feet 5inches and thanks are extended to all who entered.

Molly Andrew organised the Witham Group of Women's Institutes Annual Darts Tournament at the Turnor Arms, Wragby and Margaret Kane, president of Wragby WI was the winner of the trophy, scoring 140 on her way to victory. The runner up in the Knock Out competition was Kate Wright of East Barkwith Women's Institute and the players with their supporters enjoyed friendly competition and a happy social evening together. Hospitality was provided by Steve the manager who prepared a lovely buffet supper for his guests and scorers were Linda King and Margaret Kane.

South Willingham

'Strictly Come Dancing' is on the agenda at South Willingham Community Hall on Friday 21st November when the management committee has arranged a Spanish Night with a Salsa demonstration and a buffet type Spanish supper starting at 7pm..
Tickets at £7.50 include the meal with Spanish style soup followed by tapas and dessert with guests invited to take along their own choice of drink to help add to the party atmosphere and help the evening go with a swing.
Proceeds are for the hall refurbishment project and support is welcome.

The Friends of Donington on Bain School Annual Christmas Fayre is to be held on Friday 28th November, starting at 6pm and all are welcome to go along and enjoy the festive event. Santa will be in his Grotto to meet the children and take their orders for the big day, there will be craft and gift stalls with a festive theme, a children's tombola, Christmas puddings and refreshments for all to enjoy.
Tickets for the grand raffle are available from the school or parents now and the lucky tickets will be drawn on the night with the owner of the first to win £100 cash and an overnight stay for two at Branston Hall Hotel and a children's party for ten at Rushmoor Country Park also included in the list of excellent prizes.

Donington on Bain

Donington on Bain Parish Council has been delighted to receive a grant of £3,700 from the Awards for All Big Lottery Fund for refurbishing and repainting the Multi Use Games Area in the village Playing Field.
The East Lindsey District Council Sports Development Officer identified the need during a site meeting as the surface was getting slippery and weeds were growing through in places creating a hazard for users. The Parish Council invited tenders for the work and it will be undertaken in the spring as conditions have to be ideal for the painting. The contractor will clean the surface, deal with the weeds and fill the holes during April in preparation for painting the surface and marking the lines in May.

Wragby

The proposals for the Millbrook Business Park off Lincoln Road, Wragby have generated a good deal of interest and speculation recently and the planning application has at last been submitted to East Lindsey District Council seeking approval. Wragby Parish Council now has the opportunity to make observations on behalf of the residents and a meeting has been arranged on Monday 24th November at the Town hall Annexe in order to meet the deadline. Members of the public are welcome to attend and during the open forum from 7.15pm can make comments and air their views prior to the Council meeting formally opening at 7.30pm and then stay, but not take part as the councillors discuss the proposals.
The application for the whole of the industrial site includes provision for industry, warehousing, office space, the new Wragby Fire Station and 80 houses, seventy per cent of which will be low cost. The plans will be available for viewing at the Resource Centre or pat the meeting while further information can be obtained from the clerk Mrs Susie Marriott on 01673 857815.

Wragby

All Saint's Church, Wragby has served the community for over 800 years as there has been a parish church dedicated to All Saints in Wragby going back to the year 1200. For all of those years it has been available to every inhabitant of Wragby for babtisms, weddings and funerals and of course public services and private devotions.
As with most things, the cost of the local church and its ministry have increased in recent years and a Gift Day has been arranged to help meet the cost, appropriately at All Saints-tide.
Envelopes are available for donations to be made, if possible before 30th November to the church wardens or to The Vicarage and all contributions will be appreciated-cheques should be made out to All Saints PCC. The value of contributions can be increased by 25p in the pound if donators pay income tax by completing a simple form with name and address.

Wragby

Local photographer John Edwards stepped in at short notice to entertain the members of Wragby Women's Institute when the planned speaker was unable to attend due to illness. His collection of slides of old Wragby kept his audience fascinated, both long standing residents who delighted in identifying neighbours and friends of years gone by and those who have moved in more recently who were seeing people and places which were entirely new. The first Wragby swimming pool, formed by creating a dam in the stream but serving the purpose adequately without the modern day comforts was a source of particular interest and John's enthusiasm for the history of the town, illustrated by his photos, collected over many years adds to the interest for the viewers. He was thanked by Sarah Bellhouse for sharing his knowledge and part of his collection.
Margaret Saunders had been delegate at the Lincolnshire North Autumn Council meeting and she gave a brief report on the agenda which had included a humorous and interesting talk by Stephen D Smith as 'Rumpole of Rotherham'. He gave an insight into the life of a lawyer and how he had progressed in his work- he had at one time acted for Adam Faith.
The competition for sausage rolls was won by Sue Johnson and Margaret Fox and the best flowers of the month were shown by Audrey Saul, Pauline Cooper and Linda King.

Donington on Bain

The ROSPA inspection reports were considered at the meeting of Donington on Bain Parish Council following the annual visit and while both the Multi Use Games Area and the Recreation Area had been inspected, the firm after being contacted by the clerk agreed to forward a credit note for half the cost as the MUGA had only been inspected in March.
Minor imperfections were to be dealt with and the repainting of the surface was in hand as the Council waited to see if the application to the National Lottery Awards for All had been successful. The goal posts on the football pitch had been included and it was noted that they could still be tilted and would topple over if anyone was to swing on them. The clerk was asked to seek advice from a colleague as it was thought they could be replaced free of charge for safety reasons.
The basket ball stand in the Recreation Area should be removed as it was not suitable for an unsupervised play area it was pointed out. The clerk had contacted the inspector who suggested that it would pass the test if it was secured to the ground The access gate closing mechanism does not work correctly and needs to be modified so that it closes much more slowly it was pointed out.
A request from the village PreSchool for block booking of the MUGA during term time was considered favourably and the council agreed that no charge should be made. It would only be used on occasions when the weaather was favourable for outdoor play and when staffing ratios allowed them to be taken there.

Donington on Bain

PCSO's Andrea Cave abd Dean Warrilow joined the councillors at the recent meeting of Donington on Bain Parish Council as there were complaints of speeding traffic, particularly on Station Road and they asked that registration numbers so that the offenders could be contacted. They were also asked to look at a vehicle which regularly parks on the footway causing pedestrians to have to step onto the road as they cannot pass, particularly with prams and pushchairs. The clerk was asked to write and ask for a hedge to be cut back as it was causing an obstruction and a problem for pedestrians using the footway.
A holly bush in a garden hedge was still obscuring a street light creating a very dark area on Enfield Road and East Lindsey District Council was to be reminded of this. The Lincolnshire County Council Countryside Officer was dealing with the issue of cattle causing promlems for walkers on a public footpath.
Cllr Ian Pickering signed his Declaration of Acceptance of Office and was welcomed as e new member by chairman Cllr Mrs Sally Cosgrove and it was agreed that the vacancy on the Harold True Almshouse Trust would be on the agenda for the next meeting following receipt of a letter from Mr Philip Crowley confirming his resignation as a Nominative Trustee.
Councillors can now be reimbursed at 40p per mile , the East Lindsey District Council approved rate when travelling on council business it was agreed.

The next meeting of the Asterby, Goulceby and Ranby Parish Council is to be held on Monday 17th November at Donington on Bain Village Hall starting at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend and for the first ten minutes members of the public have the opportunity to raise matters of interest and concern to them in the villages before the council meeting formally opens at 7.40pm.

Gabrielle Ureche was the successful applicant and has now been appointed as Youth Worker in Charge at Wragby Youth Centre. Known to all as Gab, he was a teacher of sports in schools for young people from seven to fourteen years old in Romania before making his home in this country for the past four years. He had spent most of that time working as a supervisor for Burger King at Butlin's at Skegness but is now on duty at the Wragby Youth Centre each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday where he is assisted by Youth Support Workers Christine Williams and Pam Till with support too from Area Youth Worker Viv Cross.
His main interest is sport, in particular coaching football and basket ball but he is enthusiastically supporting all aspects of the curriculum and the varied interests of the members during the meetings.
One of the highlights of their recent programme, arranged by the Area Youth Worker has been the regular visits of Soundlincs with Zef leading the way teaching a variety of musical instruments. The members have formed their own band with vocals and Gab , with the assistance of the support workers is now encouraging them as they plan and rehearse for the presentation they planned to entertain their parents prior to the Christmas break.

Sugar and Spice was the theme at Wragby Town hall for the Witham Group of Women's Institutes when the autumn meeting was held, organised by Molly Andrew. The representative of Billingtons gave a brief history of the firm which now includes Allisons famed for the bread flour they produce and talked about their products illustrated by a slide show.
Goodie bags were distributed to the audience and all were invited to try the different tastes and textures of the samples of brown sugar included and comment on their preference. There were samples of dried yeast included too for those inspired to try making bread dough together with a cookery book.
Wragby W I members Margaret Kane,Margaret Saunders, Anne Flint and Marilyn Hutchinson served tea, coffee and scones afterwards, Branston members ran the raffle and Washingborough members were door stewards.
Notice was given of the Witham Group Carol Service to be held at bardbey on 14th December at 2,30pm and suggestions were invited for a speaker at the Spring Group meeting.

Celebration cakes were on the agenda for the members of Wragby and District Young Farmers when they met in the Methodist Church Schoolroom for their weekly get together and enjoyed a demonstration of cake icing. They all had the opportunity to make a teddy bear with chocolate icing as they heard about royal celebration cakes which had been made by their demonstrator who was planning a birthday cake for Prince Charles based on the theme of the garden at Highgrove.
A report was given on the visit to Dennet's Ice Cream at Spilsby where the party of members had enjoyed a conducted tour of the process and delicous samples of an amazing variety of flavours of ice cream. The visit to the Lifeboat Station at Mablethorpe had also provided lots of interest for the members as they learned of the valued work undertaken by the volunteers based there.
A reminder was given of the Annual County Ball which this year is to be held at the Epic Centre at the Lincolnshire Show Ground. END

The next meeting of East and West Barkwith Parish Council is to be held on Thursday 20th November in the Village Hall. At 7.30pm prior to the meeting being formally opened, Janet Clark of Community Lincs is to talk about Parish Plans and explain the need for setting up a steering committee and involving the whole community if there is sufficient interest in developing a plan for the Parish.

Sheila Minns presiding welcomed Steve Lovell to the monthly meeting of the Barkwith and District Gardeners Association when his chosen topic was 'Bark, berries and leaves'. He illustrated his seasonal talk with slides taken in different parts of the country, showing how effective various plants and shrubs can be at this time of year and also included some herbacious plants for added interest for his audience. Lyn Small won the flower of the month competition and coffee, tea and biscuits were served as members were reminded of the annual meeting on Friday 28th November. 'Name that plant is to be the theme for Anne Marie Snowden as she demonstrates once the annual business has concluded and the committee elected for the coming year. END

Refreshments will be served during the interval and there will be a raffle too with all proceeds for the Town Hall refurbishing fund. Wragby Parish Council grant applications

Grants for maintenance cannot be made by the Council, it was announced at the meeting of Wragby Parish Council and funding will not be provided to the Wragby Football Club for grass cutting in the future. This followed the application for a grant of £,1000 to include maintenance plus the erection of lighting and netting for the area around the pitch. It was agreed that the request could not be considered until more information was provided together with the receipted invoice showing the use of the grant provided in the last financial year.
Cllr Victor Nash complemented the Football Club on the work they do for the young people of the district by providing facilities for training and matches for three youth teams and an adult team. He felt very strongly that the Parish Council should be supporting the club in its effort to encourage sport as there were always plenty of complaints when there was a problem in the town in which it was thought the young people had been involved.
The application for £300 from the Wragby Heritage Group was also to be returned asking for more detailed
information. It regarded the cost and support the group were offering shopkeepers in Wragby Market Place with hanging baskets intended to add some colour to the area next summer as part of Wragby in bloom.
A request from the Wragby Youth Centre for replacement goal posts for the outdoor court area for safety reasons was approved at a cost of just over £500.

Community Shelter for Dove Park

Wragby Parish Council has committed over £9,000 to providing a Community Shelter in Dove Park, including £8,000 for the Gazebo type construction and £1,150 for the hard core and concrete base. Councillors discussed the actual area for the shelter and agreed the ideal site would between a mature tree and the church, set back from the road. An additional street light is also to be requested as the footway in that area is quite dark and it is thought it will serve a dual purpose and provide illumination for the shelter too.
A request was made for a youth shelter when the Parish Plan was drawn up as there is nowhere for the young people of Wragby and District to meet and the Parish Council feels that the shelter will provide for the young and the elderly jointly.
A request is to be made for a contribution towards the cost from a police fund which helps to provide youth shelters in communities to enable the young to have a space to call their own.

Request for allotments

A request for allotment land has been received by Wragby Parish Council and investigations are to be made with a view to finding a suitable site. Six parishioners are keen to have an allotment and the Council is therefore required to take action although the parish does not own land. The clerk was instructed to approach East Lindsey District Council for help and councillors suggested areas they considered could be utilised including a plot in the town centre which is privately owned and was at one time let for grazing horses, if it could be made available.

Council Vacancy at Wragby

Richard Waring has tendered his resignation as a councillor due to pressure of work creating a vacancy on Wragby Parish Council. East Lindsey District Council has been informed and notices will be displayed shortly asking local electors to write to the Returning Officer if they wish the vacancy to be filled by an election.

Darren Darby Memorial Fund

The DDMF held their annual car rally recently when the family and friends of the late
Fire fighter Darren raised a sum in excess of £760 from the raffle, tombola, cake stalls, late entries and donations plus a mini auction of donated items with Jim Bowen of Penny’s Place, Coningsby acting as auctioneer.
There were 72 vehicles attending the rally which set off from the Petwood Hotel and enjoyed a road run of approx 25 miles before arriving at their destination Thorpe Camp Visitor Centre.
The Lincolnshire Autistic Society were there with their very popular ‘water & wine’ stall,
The Woodhall Spa fire crew and tender managed their usual appearance to the delight of the crowd plus Coningsby/Tattershall and Woodhall First Responders gave up their time to attend.
Special guest of the day Dr Yvonne Owen, Clinical Director of L.I.V.E.S who incidentally trained Darren as a first responder.

Youthworx

Last Saturday was the Grand Opening of the new children’s play garden at Youthworx in Coningsby designed and made by the Young Parents Group.
The young parents had been working on the garden for over a year and were pleased to have it opened by the Mayor of Coningsby Coun Paddy Donnellan and deputy Mayor Coun Ruth Sharples and town clerk Kathy Roberts.
The young parents have built a sandpit, veg garden, and laid down bark in the garden.
They applied for a grant from the Youth Opportunity Fund which paid for all the play equipment such as a swing, slide and playhouse.
At the opening they had cake and toy stall which raised over £39 towards the group’s funds.
At the opening the young parents were also awarded their Millennium Volunteers Certificates by County Councillor Mrs Betty Harvey OBE
They were presented to Sarah Hall, Andrew Hall, Chris Midgley, Emily Atkinson and Michaela Hannay.
The Young parents also entered their pumpkin in the Coningsby Show and won first prize, their scarecrow won third prize.

W.I.

President of Coningsby and Tattershall W.I. Janet Harrison welcomed members to the September meeting including visiting W.I.Adviser Mrs Lisemore.
Janet congratulated everyone’s participation in the Coningsby Show, winning the Scarecrow competition , a successful outside garden stall, supplying and looking after the refreshments.
She also asked for everyone to bring along programme planning ideas to the October meeting.
Correspondence included a thank you for helping at the Lincolnshire Show, notice of a beading workshop in November and Christmas wreathe making in December, plus an opportunity to meet the Chairman and Trustees and to ask questions at a Greet, Grub and Grumble evening in October.
There was a petition to sign and how to follow up regarding the Violence Against Women Campaign also a questionnaire “Women Reaching Women” from NFWI concerning international issues.
For the 90th anniversary fund raising there was a quiz from Jean Edwards selling at £1 each, cards for sale from the Craft Club and a member brought along fresh veg from the garden to sell while Connie reminded everyone she was having a further Whist Drive on 11th October.
Members then enjoyed an excellent talk from popular Rodney Cousins, this time talking on “Dutch Links” which included industry, ariculture, horticulture, buildings to name a few.
He commented that a building in Coningsby was the Elizabethan House which is built in the Dutch style. Evelyn Hodson told Rodney about the memorial Dutch Flag which is in the chapel in St Michael’s Church.
Connie Stennett won the monthly competition with a bowl decorated with tulips, Ena Lincoln came second.
Janet asked members to wear something pink at the next meeting for Breast Cancer.
Members meet each second Thursday in Coningsby Community Hall at 7.00pm and new ladies are always welcome.

Fun Day was Great

Coningsby and Tattershall Lions together with Woodhall Spa Rotary held their annual Free Fun Day at Gartree School on Saturday and despite erecting tents in the fog during the morning the sun came out at lunchtime for an excellent afternoon.
Children aged between 2 and 15 years attended the event and tried the various activities from throwing the welly to negotiating a slalom course in a wheelchair! All games were free and included archery, football and tennis with everyone having a really great time.
Local charities were invited to hold fundraising stalls and the Red Cross very kindly stood in attendance. A representative of Coningsby and Tattershall First Responders also came.

Coningsby & District Show

The Coningsby and District Flower, Produce and Craft Show was held in Coningsby Hall recently.
There were charity stalls set up outside the hall, fortunately in fine weather, and the Royal British Legion & District won the Bill Edgar Memorial Rose Bowl for best-presented stall.
Inside the hall various “scarecrows” on an Alien theme were arranged, the winner being the W.I. second was the ‘Scarecrow Alliance and third was the youngsters from Youthworx.
A new competition this year was a painting in any medium and this was won by Sue Limb, Derek Warner came second and Ros Rickard third.
Colourful displays of vegetables, fruit, flowers, cookery and crafts displayed in the hall were admired by the many visitors during the afternoon, and the children’s classes were especially well-supported.
Trophies were presented to all the winners of the different sections and following this an auction took place with the many items of produce which had been generously donated by exhibitors, to raise funds towards next year’s Show.
The afternoon finished with the Grand Raffle.
Once again the Coningsby and District Show had been another resounding success.

Russell Retire - No Way

Greengrocer and florist in Coningsby for the last forty years Russell Green has sold his greengrocery shop but regular customers needn’t worry as he has retained the florist’s which is run by his sister in law Maxine and converted outdoor sheds into a Farm Shop!
Asked if he was going to retire Russell replied “well, I am going to take Sundays off!”
Russ has supplied his customers in Coningsby/Tattershall and District with fresh vegetables since he was 15 when he delivered with a bicycle and cart. He learned floristry in Boston and at 17 bought his first van.
His Dad Ivor, bought a piece of land in Coningsby to expand his own growing facilities and storage and when Russell married Mavis in 1963 they lived in a caravan for four years on the site before building the present bungalow and shop.
An illness in 1974 left Mavis wheelchair bound , she passed away in 2006.
Russell has always enjoyed his work, meeting people and offering a service.
When the shop closed recently Russell had a celebration party for his staff and they have all now settled into premises at the rear of the florist still offering the same quality of fruit and vegetables , and a place to park. But….. he will now be closed on Sundays!

Helping Hands

At the recent meeting Chairman Debbie Money welcomed members and accepted reports from Miss Louise Jordon regarding the hospital car Journeys and the report from Shaun Tibbs regarding the Finances.
Grateful thanks were given for donations towards the loan of equipment and in memory of loved ones also the wonderful sum of £212 from Squadron 29 plus a further £314 for their sponsored walk in the Scottish Highlands.
Final arrangements were made for the September Bingo on Friday, 19th. Much discussion took place regarding increasing the prices for bingo. It was felt the quality of prizes should not be reduced as Helping Hands have a good reputation for value for money!

'Have a Go' Sports Day

After the success of the Olympics why not come along to the next Sports free “have a go” day at Gartree School this Saturday 20th September between 11.00am and 4.00pm.
It is open to all ages although children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult and parents must sign a consent form for young people between 11 and 16 years.
All the family could come along and find something they would like to try, young, old, disabled or abled everyone is more than welcome to come along to try their skills.
You can have a go at : Trampolining, Gymnastics, Archery, Athletics, Football, Basket Ball, Hockey or Rugby.
If none of those suit try Canoeing, New Age Curling, Kite Flying, or Fencing.
A fantastic choice which the Coningsby and Tattershall Sports Forum group have arranged and which hopefully will be well supported after all their hard work.
Water will be available but you will need to bring your own food if required.

Norfolk Shepherd is back!

He is returning to Coningsby by popular demand and will be at the Community Hall on Saturday 1st November .

Council/Police Office Coffee Morning

Coningsby Town Clerk and local Police will be holding a Coffee Morning at the Council/Police Office on Friday Morning 26th September from 9.00am until 12 midday.
Councillors will also be giving a hand in serving the refreshments and a raffle will be held, all in aid of the National Macmillan Cancer Support Fund.
This will be the 18th Macmillan Coffee Morning, last year an incredible £7.5 million was raised worldwide all going towards the improvement of people living with cancer, along with their families and carers.
The fund rely on voluntary donations for 99% of their income so could not do what they do without public support.
The plans for the proposed improvements to the Allan Barker Recreation Ground will be available in the town office for anyone who may like to look and see what is planned, you may also add your own comments on what you would like provided.
Anyone who would like to donate a raffle prize is welcome to leave it at the office, all donations very much appreciated.

Thursday Club enjoy Wartime Tea

Thursday Club
Last week Chairman of the Coningsby and Tattershall Thursday Club Dian Stevens welcomed 31 members and 1 visitor to the afternoon session at Coningsby Community Hall. A Get Well soon card was sent to Laura Lambley having been admitted to hospital.
Members enjoyed a couple of games of bingo organised by Kath Bedford and she, along with Margaret crick ran a raffle for club funds.
Everyone then enjoyed a film show of Springfields Tulip Parades through the years up to and including 2008.
Hostesses serving tea and biscuits were Julia, Kath, Dulcie, Margaret, Hilda, Thora and Colin.
This week vice Chairman Thora Veall opened the afternoon welcoming 27 members and sending wishes to Laura still poorly in hospital.
Birthday wishes went to Sal and Hilda and Colin Lamb called two games of bingo.
The remaining part of the afternoon took the part of a typical wartime tea-time when the committee served Spam sandwiches, jam sandwiches, jelly and blancmange with a piece of cake made from a Ministry of Food Recipe.
This was really enjoyed by all and the afternoon ended by joining together and singing wartime choruses.

Tattershall with Thorpe Parish Council

Chairman Coun Richard Pick welcomed everyone to the September meeting and on behalf of the council gave condolences to Councillors Pam Day, Graham Harness and the clerk Jean Girling for their respective family deaths.

It was reported by the clerk that LCC will patch the footway outside Gartree School this year and put on programme for resurfacing next year.
They will erect bollards outside certain properties in the High Street to prevent cars parking and churning up the grass.
A new street light to replace the one damaged by a vehicle will be installed early October.

Correspondence.
A letter of complaint has been received from a parishioner complaining how the area of Willows Court is treated. It says that several people still urinate up the walls and in the gardens coming out of the car park, pulling their pants down in front of windows.
Bottles and paper rubbish are thrown down every evening, especially after a night of drinking in the car park when the rubbish is thrown over the wall into the properties.
The graffiti in the car park is still there despite previous complaints to councillors and the car racers are still at it in the car park at 11.00pm
The resident feels that plenty of help is given to cleaning the Market Place but no-one bothers about Willows Court especially important as more people are passing through now due to the new buildings.
Councillors decided that this was a police matter and their representative, Coun Gill Shaw will take it to the next police meeting.

East Lindsey DC wrote concerning the possible need for CCTV cameras and councillors replied by asking the clerk to write and enforce the need for this.

The footpaths officer, Mr Jonathan Stockdale, replied to the council’s annual footpath report walk saying that dog fouling has been mentioned many times. He pointed out that LCC do not deal with this but may be tackled by the Dog Warden from ELDC.
Councillors agreed that he should be contacted as soon as possible due to the prevalence of dog fouling throughout the village.

Mr Robert Taylor, environment officer from ELDC wrote regarding the council’s request for a TPO (tree preservation order) at North Road and said that an assessment of the tree would be taken.

Mr Doug Eke, secretary of the PCC, Tattershall Holy Trinity Church, wrote to say that some of the trees in the “closed” churchyard were becoming a nuisance and danger to the public and health.
ELDC’s Tree Conservation Officer and a tree specialist have made an inspection and made their recommendations. The PCC suggest that representatives of the Parish Council would like to meet for a site meeting to discuss the way forward.

Regarding a sign “No Ball Games” for Castleview requested by some residents the council feel that it is a needless expense.

Bits & Pieces
It was resolved to buy three poppy wreaths.
Members were informed that the Bede House Accounts had been received.
No further update has been received from Tattershall Country Park.
Councillors agreed to a site meeting regarding the dying tree at Carwood Crescent.
It was agreed to purchase bulbs for planting at Mason’s Lane, Fortescue, High Street and the Market Place.
The flag was raised on the Green 5 times in July, 1 official and four personal.
Regarding the installation of railings outside Gartree School a letter will be sent to the Highways/Road Safety Partnership for their consideration.
Each time it rains very large puddles collect in Lodge Road, the state of repair is bad. The clerk was asked to write to the Divisional Manager at Highways.
This year the Christmas Tree will be lit at 6.00pm and there will be a procession from the schools to the Castle for Carols.
A meeting has been requested with LCC to thrash out details for the lease of the Parish Office.
The annual dinner will be held on 8th May 2009.
The position of Speaker has yet to be decided. The clerk will investigate various suggestions.

Women's Section R.B.L. gives £618 to County

The Coningsby and Tattershall RBL Women’s Section have had a busy summer when in June they celebrated their 45th anniversary with a lunch at the Petwood hotel where the Chairman Jill Addinall presented the Falklands Trophy, voted for by members, to Ann Taylor. A competition for a bookmark was won by Gwen Butterfield who was awarded the Lillian Barrack Trophy for her efforts.
During the same month the men’ s Branch held a very successful Veteran 's Day Service and tea, at which the ladies helped with refreshments. In recognition of their hard work the ladies were given a donation for Section funds for which they were very grateful.

In July the meeting welcomed guests, including members of other branches, to a talk given by Dr Ian MacFeeters, who gave an insight into what a doctor was like without antibiotics or sophisticated medical instruments. After his much appreciated talk members were relieved that the skills of the modern day National Health Service may be enjoyed.
The County Purse Presentation also took place in July at North Hykeham. The Women’ s Section presented £618 and the Purse was presented by treasurer Gwen Butterfield. The total amount raised throughout the County for the national welfare work was a staggering £21,497.00 In the handicraft competition Connie Stennett won a prize for her chutney.

The President Doris Rudd opened the September meeting with the Act of Homage. Jill Addinall gave notice of the “Service in the Field” at Sibsey Northlands on 5th October; the Poppy Launch at East Kirkby Aviation Centre on 25th October and the County Conference in Tattershall Village Hall on 22nd November. The Branch is holding a Table Top Sale and Coffee Morning for the Poppy Appeal in Coningsby Community Hall on November 1st.
Posters have been placed around the villages so book your tables early.
After the business meeting the members enjoyed a ploughman’s supper before the Harvest Auction conducted by Evelyn Hodson. The sum of £50 was raised by the hard working auctioneer and most people went home happily with something they did not know they needed!
The next meeting is 6th October and members are always pleased to meet new people at their meetings which are held in Coningsby Community Hall on the first Tuesday of the month commencing at 7.00pm

Ancaster Athletic

Ancaster Athletic Football Club have three teams entered in the Grantham Youth League, Under 10s, Under 7s and Under 8s.

Home games for the Under 10s begin on Sunday 21 September. Fixtures will be announced later for the Under 7s and 8s so until then they will be playing friendlies.

Scrabble Club

Ancaster Scrabble club continues to meet every Wednesday in the sports and social club from 2.00pm to 4.00pm.

Highest scorers from 5 meetings were Bob Rodgers 5169, Jean Bottomley 5029 and Merryl Day 4708.

This month £50 was donateed to the Air Ambulance Fund.

New players whatever their ability always very welcome.

Ancaster Ladies

Ancaster Ladies Club enjoyed their outing to Woodland Waters during August. This month they will meet in the Social Room Angel Court 8.00pm on September 18. All ladies very welcome.

Restoration Appeal

A total of £602.00 was raised towards the Restoration Appeal for St Martin's Church Ancaster from a coffee morning held at Old Hall Farm Sudbrook.

Nora retires at 102!

Ancaster's senior Calendar Girl Nora Hardwick aged 102 is retiring as organiser of the very popular weekly Whist Drives and someone is needed to take over from her if they are to continue.



Nora started running the whist drives in 1999 and since then they have run on most Mondays throughout the years. Every year profits from the drives are donated to local charities, including the parish hall improvements, the Ambucopter and the Surgery. In 2008, £420 was donated towards the Church spire renovations.



Every week up to 30 people from Ancaster, Wilsford, Grantham, Sleaford and Heckington attend to enjoy and evening of whist, a chat, refreshments and a raffle.



Nora thanked everyone who helped her on a Monday, with a special mention for Bob and Olive Rodgers she said "they have been my chief helpers, but I would also like to thank others who support and help with the washing up"



On the final whist drive there were 19 players. Highest scorer was Ken Rainthorpe with 175. Other winners included Trevor Allen, Sheila Chambers, Kathy McDermid, Pearl Rasdall and Thelma Cram. Six hand partner drive Kath Hix and Ken Rainthorpe.

Tattershall Village Hall UpdateProceeds from the August Car Boot sale were £648 for ongoing village hallprojects and many thanks to all those who helped and supported the event.
